-Local butcheries.

-Livestock markets in modern markets built by KeLCoP in KeLCoP counties.

2.Price ranges.

Prices depend on the age,the body score and the breed.

Mature rams-15000_25000

Mature ewes-15000_20000

3.Main challenges in sheep marketing.

_Price fluctuations.

  1. Sheep for meat,mature sheep,sell of ewes for reproduction purposes.
  2. Prices range from mature sheep that is from 1 to 2 years goes upto 30000 depending on the size,weght,age and type of breed
  3. Brokers that reduce farm price,fluctuations depending on the seasons and demand.
  4. Creation  of aggregation centres,cooperatives

1. Source of market for sheep rearing farmers

2. Price range for sheep categories in Kenya (2025-2026)

Prices vary by breed, age, weight, and season:

* Lambs 4-5 months - KES 5,500 – 8,000

*Market-ready 6-8 months - KES 10,000 – 15,000

* Mature breeding ewes and rams - KES 15,000 – 30,000

*Purebred/registered rams - KES 45,000 – 150,000

*Market price during drought - KES 3,000 – 9,000 depending on weight

 

3. Challenges in sheep marketing

- Middlemen exploitation

- Poor market access & infrastructure

- Lack of market information

- Inconsistent supply & drought

- Low capital & credit access

  4. Sheep farmers should register and form marketing cooperatives to bargain for fair prices

Q1 : local slaughterhouses within siaya county and butcheries.

Q2 : - Mature ram : 9000- 12000

          -Mature ewes - 7000- 8000

Q3 : - Exploitation by middlemen.

         - Lack of proper market structures.

Q4 : - Creating awareness on e- marketing for smallholder farmers to minimize exploitation by middlemen.
